Top Tips For secure computing
Here are our Top Tips for secure computing with Application Armour 2007.
- Never use the Internet un–Armoured. Use Throwaway mode normally unless you wish to download something or do email; then you should use Online mode.
- Always store your most sensitive information in Offline mode so that would-be attackers cannot steal your data over the Internet.
- Always check the colour of the Armour shield at the top of an applications main window. If the shield is green, you are in Offline mode. If the shield is red, you are in Online mode. If the shield is yellow, you are in Throwaway mode. If there is no shield, the application is un–Armoured.
- If your internet page doesn't display properly or your mail doesn't “Send/Receive”, check that you’re not running in Offline Mode.
- Change the length of time that elapses before Application Armour locks by choosing the “Tools” button and then selecting the “Inactivity Timeout” and set the desired time.
- You can print from Armoured applications, but be aware that anything on the printer may be seen by others.
- Make sure that the email address you have provided us with is a current one as we will notify you of any updates via that address. Email support@applicationarmour.com if you need us to amend your records.
- Application Armour does not specify how long your password needs to be. Passwords are the weakest link so try to make sure that you use an alpha numeric password, and make sure it's not your date of birth or your pet's name. Don't write your Armour password on a piece of paper by your computer!
